What will Dr Meyer ask you to do with your medications pre-operatively?
It is imperative that you inform your Dr Meyer of all medication and allergies. Do not presume that these have already been given to Dr Meyer and his team by your GP or healthcare practitioner as medication lists can become 'out of date' very quickly.
What are the medications Dr Meyer may ask you to stop before your operation?
- Blood thinners, such as Rivaroxaban, Warfarin, Xarelto, Eliquis, Apixaban, Dabigatran
- Diabetic medications, such as Metformin, Jardiance, Jardiamet, Insulin, Glicazide
Dr Meyer will not ask you to stop your Aspirin.
Weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Trulicity cause a delay in your stomach emptying. It is very important that Dr Meyer and your Anaesthetist are aware if you use this medication. You should continue to use it as usual. You will be asked to drink only clear fluids for the 24 hours leading up to your operation. Clear fluids are water, black coffee, green tea, black tea, clear apple juice, clear chicken broth. You will then be asked to have nothing further to drink (nil by mouth) for 6 hours before your arrival time at the hospital.
There is a possibility that if you choose not to follow your medication instructions your surgery will be cancelled.
